The job of the housekeeper has always been an important one for many families in modern times.
Today, the task is a highly coveted one for a young housekeeper looking to gain a foothold in the industry.
“I love being in the housekeeping business,” says Jessica Sattel, a young mom with two young kids who started a business to help her family with household chores.
“There’s a whole spectrum of housekeeping positions and you can find a great job that is ideal for you, or you can just start out and get a little bit of experience.”
For Jessica, a home care provider in New York City, her first job out of college was a cleaning lady.
She was doing housekeeping work in her home when she got a call from her husband, a landscaper.
He said he was a big fan of house cleaning and that he would love to work for her.
The couple got married a year later and the job of cleaning the home grew from that.
“My husband is a very creative guy, so when he saw me cleaning his house, he said, ‘I’m gonna start a house cleaning business,'” Jessica says.
Jessica is not alone in her interest in the career.
“The job is very important for many people, especially the young people who are starting out,” says Jill Todrick, the owner of the website, The Housekeeper Guide, which provides a wealth of information about housekeeping.
“And you don’t want to be left out,” she says.
“You want to show your passion and your work and your experience.
You don’t have to be a housekeeper to do it.”
It’s important for housekeepers to understand what’s required to be successful, so they can have the right skills to help clients stay healthy and stay on top of their finances.
“If you’re going to be doing home cleaning, you need to be able to get up at 5:30 a.m. and go to work at 7:30,” says Sarah Deutsch, a senior housekeeper at the University of Washington who is also a certified public accountant.
“It’s a really, really important job, especially if you’re a new mom.”
Here are some common tasks to keep in mind when looking for a housekeeping job.
A good housekeeper needs to be well-versed in cleaning the premises, especially kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry.
Cleaning a home can also be a time-consuming and time-intensive endeavor.
“When you’re working a lot, you’re not thinking of how to keep up with the kids or your laundry,” says Todricks.
“But you have to keep things clean and tidy.
And if you have a house that’s a mess, you don.
You can’t really do much about it.”
If you’re looking for housekeeping help, make sure you’ve got the right tools and are comfortable cleaning the whole house.
“Just get the job done and be happy with yourself,” says Deutsch.
Laundries are not just for home care workers.
They can be a great opportunity for people who don’t work the traditional housekeeping jobs.
“They can also help with the whole cleaning business,” Todicks says.
Laying clothes in a dryer or a dry cycle can be an excellent way to help the home stay in tip-top shape, she says, because it helps prevent mold, dust, and mildew.
You may also be able see the benefits of washing dishes in a sink, using a washing machine, or even having a vacuum cleaner installed to help you get clean.
For many housekeepers, the biggest challenge is finding a home that is up to code and safe for your family.
You also need to know how to do laundry, so you’ll want to make sure that your house has air conditioning, sinks, and dishwashers, too.
“Do your research and ask questions,” says Debby Deutsch of The Housekeepers Guide.
“What is the current code?
What’s the current health code?
Are there safety requirements?”
And don’t forget to get the house checked out.
“Before you go in and do your inspection, make a list of all of your appliances,” says Sattels husband.
“Make sure all of them have proper maintenance.”
“We all know the house is going to burn,” Sattles says.
However, you can also do a good job keeping the house safe with proper ventilation and a heat-control system.
“Most people can handle a small heat source,” says Amanda Deutsch from The Housekeeping Guide.
But if you need more help, try asking your housekeeper or a licensed professional.
“A housekeeper can really do a lot,” Deutsch says.
She adds that she’s seen many home care professionals and home health care professionals who can help with
